Happy Columbus Day and Italian American Heritage Month!

Daniel J. Longo, the National President of the Order Sons of Italy in America, said in an email this morning, in part:

We join together to remember how, in 1492, Christopher Columbus set sail in an attempt to find a new trade route to the East. Instead, he landed on an island in the western hemisphere and his tales of this New World inspired countless others to explore this uncharted territory.

We also come together to celebrate the achievements of immigrants, many of whom were Italian, who followed in Christopher Columbus’ footsteps; who sailed across the ocean in an attempt to start a new and prosperous life. These brave men and women settled in the United States with only a dream to give their families a better future.”

I couldn’t have said it better myself. We should be proud of our ancestry and the Italian blood that flows through our veins!
