Expression: Andare a carte e quarantotto

Translation: To go cards and forty-eight

Meaning: To blow up – it refers to the year 1848, when Europe saw a burst of upheavals and social revolutions

Example: “Doveva essere un bel progetto, e invece qualcosa è andato storto ed è andato tutto a carte e quarantotto”
